It&#8217;s a result of an experiment and the experiment failed \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_BradleyVX\">_BradleyVX<\/a> who pointed out the hallucinations that sneaked in to the below list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t do AI at home, kids!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need a list of temporary file names and extensions have a look at this <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WARP-LAB\/nextcloud-settings-for-programmers\">great list<\/a>, or other <a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/xunux\/04032f3f28c49ea3222c\">file extension lists<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Old Post<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anytime you download a file via a browser, instant messenger, or other apps&#8230; it is first saved to a temporary file&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These temporary files are saved with some particular extensions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Browsers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Chrome &#8211; .crdownload<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Firefox &#8211; .download (hallucination! should be .part)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opera &#8211; .opdownload<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safari &#8211; .part (hallucination! should be .download)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft Edge &#8211; .temp (hallucination! should be .partial)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brave &#8211; .brave-download<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For email clients (most are hallucinations):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Outlook &#8211; .tmp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mozilla Thunderbird &#8211; .part<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apple Mail &#8211; .download<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gmail Web &#8211; .tmp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Yahoo Mail &#8211; .tmp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ProtonMail &#8211; .tmp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tutanota  &#8211; .tmp<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For Instant Messengers  (most are hallucinations):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>WhatsApp &#8211; .temp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Telegram &#8211; .temp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discord &#8211; .dat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signal &#8211; .tmp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skype &#8211; .part<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facebook Messenger &#8211; .download<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Google Chat &#8211; .temp<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Are there any others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, in the interest of full disclosure&#8230; I have not written much of this post. In the past I would manually download these programs, and then would spend hours testing their file-saving capabilities. For this post, I simply asked <a href=\"https:\/\/bard.google.com\/\">Google Bard<\/a>.
