{"id":6852,"date":"2019-10-24T22:09:19","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T22:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hexacorn.com\/blog\/?p=6852"},"modified":"2019-10-24T22:18:15","modified_gmt":"2019-10-24T22:18:15","slug":"beyond-good-ol-run-key-part-121","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hexacorn.com\/blog\/2019\/10\/24\/beyond-good-ol-run-key-part-121\/","title":{"rendered":"Beyond good ol\u2019 Run key, Part 121"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is a very convoluted way of creating a persistence mechanism, but it&#8217;s worth describing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>SPReview.exe<\/em> I covered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hexacorn.com\/blog\/2019\/10\/23\/beyond-good-ol-run-key-part-120\/\">previously<\/a> has an interesting option: <em>\/WuExecuted<\/em> or <em>\/WusaExecuted<\/em>. When it is executed with one of these as an argument it does a lot of stuff, but the most important from our perspective is this bit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>It reads value of HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Setup\\Pending\\SPReviewEnabler=&lt;file&gt;<\/li><li>It copies that value to HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\RunOnce\\SPReview=&lt;file&gt;<\/li><li>It then deletes the HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Setup\\Pending\\SPReviewEnabler entry<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So&#8230; as long as you set up the <em>SPReviewEnabler<\/em> and run the <em>SPReview.exe<\/em> with one of the <em>WU*<\/em> options you will have your chosen file executed once the very next time current user logs on.
