I quickly discovered that ieframe.dll also exports identically named function; a quick googling around followed and I noticed it was a subject to previous analysis (<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.quarkslab.com\/analysis-of-ms16-104-url-files-security-feature-bypass-cve-2016-3353.html\">CVE-2016-3353<\/a>) &#8211; as a result, the vulnerability that allowed remote execution of code was patched.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the built-in functionality can help to launch other programs via proxy e.g. using the .url file:<\/p>\n<pre>[InternetShortcut]\r\nURL=file:\/\/\/c:\\windows\\system32\\calc.exe<\/pre>\n<p>and running:<\/p>\n<pre>rundll32 ieframe.dll, OpenURL &lt;path to local URL file&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>will launch calculator.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update After I posted it bohops\u00a0provided one more variant: rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll, OpenURL [path to file.url] Thanks!
